Tips to Become a Pro at Overcooked 2 with Only 2 Players

Overcoming Staff Shortages

Overcooked 2 is a fun game that has left my friends and I laughing, shouting, and cursing. Oh, it tested our so-called friendship, for sure, but it is still one of my favorite games. The game is most fun when you’re playing with four players because it makes the game more chaotic, but having only two players makes the game more exciting–well, that’s just for me. I have been playing this game for years, and I have never grown tired of it simply because I’m so competitive and I love cooking games.

For the past few months, I have been playing the game with only one friend, and I have discovered some strategies that might help beginners or those having a hard time playing a 2-player game. This is my firsthand experience, so you can trust what I say in this blog post. Let’s start!

Check your internet connection

Let me tell you how many times I fought my friends because of their internet connection. Having high-speed internet is a requirement to play this game online, and if your internet isn’t great, then just stop trying to play this game. If you host the session and you get disconnected in the middle of the game, the session will close–which will throw all your efforts for that round. But if you’re not the one who created the session, you’ll need to play the game by yourself, which is no fun. So before anything else, make sure you both have a stable and fast internet connection.

Communicate, communicate, and communicate

Overcooked 2 is the definition of teamwork, and if there’s no proper communication, there’s no teamwork. When playing the game, the best way to communicate is through voice–it could be on Discord, Facetime, Messenger, or whatever floats your boat. Just make sure that you can communicate clearly because even a second of delay can turn your almost 3 stars into 1 star.

And if for example you can’t use any app to communicate or it’s the middle of the night and you don’t want to disturb your roommate, you can just use the emotes in the game. These emotes are enough to remind your teammate about a specific task, including serving, preparing, washing dishes, cooking, and more.

Follow the order of tickets

Serving food in the proper order is crucial

Many Overcooked players don’t understand the importance of serving food in order of the ticket. When you do this, you’ll get a tip multiplier that increases your earnings. Once it is triggered, you will see that the score area is burning or in flames. I never recognized serving in order because our goal was just to put out food, whatever it was–as long as we earned some points. But doing this consistently will earn you more points, and it has worked wonders for us.

Be attentive to your partner’s needs

Since you’re only two players, you need to help each other out as much as you can. If you notice that they’re struggling, you have to make time to lend a hand. For example, if you see that what he/she is cooking is going to burn but he/she is doing something else, you should hurry and tend to the burning food. It’s very important that you have your partner’s back and they have yours. This will make your gameplay much smoother and more enjoyable. Who would ever want a partner who has their own world, right? Remember, this game is all about teamwork.

Learn to master the controls

The game’s controls allow you to move comfortably and make your gameplay more efficient. I honestly love throwing food because it’s much faster, and it’s needed in specific maps/games. So if you’re still uncomfortable with the controls, you should modify it in the settings to your liking. Not everyone can understand the default controls of the game, so it’s a smart idea to modify them how you like them to prevent accidents during the game. You wouldn’t want to drop a perfectly cooked chicken and fries in the water, right?

Wrapping Up

Overcooked 2 is one of the most challenging and intense games out there, but once you get a hold of it, you’ll enjoy this beautiful game to the fullest–just like I did. If you’re going to play this with your best friend or partner, just make sure to have patience because it can get frustrating, especially if you’re competitive like me. Nevertheless, don’t forget the most important part. HAVE FUN!
