Black Myth: Wukong has nearly 90 bosses in the game, but some stand out more than most. From Chapters One to Four, you’ll notice a string of Loong bosses, all bearing the ability to mete out lightning attacks to devastating effect.
These legendary dragons present a difficult challenge, but a rare, powerful weapon lies at the end of the tunnel. Some of these bosses are easy to access, while others need several extra steps to reach them, yet you’ll always know when one is near when the narrator starts monologuing. As such, we’ll delve into all the Loong bosses you can find in the game and rank them from easiest to hardest, along with a few tips on how to handle them.
All Loong Bosses, Ranked By Difficulty
Cyan Loong
- Location: Turtle Island, Bitter Lake
- Nearest shrine: Turtle Island Shrine
- Rewards:
- 1x Loong Pearl
- 1x Mind Core
- 2x Fine Gold Thread
- Mountain-Shaking Claw
The easiest Loong boss, believe it or not, is found mid-way through your journey as the Destined One in Chapter Three. Near the shore not too far from Turtle Island Shrine, you’ll find a draconic-like figure frozen and hunched over, seemingly fishing. The minute you get too close, however, a cutscene starts and the Cyan Loong reveals himself, his innocuous-looking fishing pole turning into a wicked longsword.
Although he may seem intimidating at first, the Cyan Loong’s attack patterns are quite easy to figure out and get used to. One of his first (and most common) attacks is a whirling spin he does while in the air, but this attack is quite easy to dodge.
He does your typical jab and slash with the blade and uses his tail to smack you over if you try to attack him from behind–nothing to sweat over too much.
But just because he’s the easiest, doesn’t mean you could let your guard down. Once the boss’ health is at a certain level, he’ll imbue his blade with lightning and start inflicting AoE attacks.
One of these attacks could kill you in one shot if you’re not careful, but maintaining distance while keeping an eye out for wide arcs of lightning will do the job. Thankfully, his lightning state is temporary, and he’ll be back to his original moveset.
Overall, the Cyan Loong is a highly predictable enemy with not a lot of fancy bells and whistles.
Red Loong
- Location: Forest of the Wolves, Black Wind Mountain
- Nearest shrine: Outside of the Forest Shrine
- Rewards:
- Boshan Censer
- Thunder Tail
- 1x Mind Core
- 3x Silk
- 1x Loong Pearl
The very first Loong boss in the game, the Red Loong is a secret boss found in Chapter One and easily missable. This boss can’t be accessed until reaching Chapter Two, however, as you’ll need to obtain Loong Scales found near the First Rat Prince’s boss arena. Once you receive them, you can travel outside the Forest Shrine and head towards the waterfall, where the Red Loong’s lair resides.
Unlike the other Loong bosses who are more distinctly humanoid in appearance, the Red Loong is the only one to bear the closest resemblance to the mythical Chinese dragon of legend. This boss requires quite a bit of patience to get through, as it’s hard to pin down as it flies from one corner of the arena to another.
Although Red Loong lacks the lightning breath of Chapter Three’s Kang-Jin Loong, it compensates with the heavy canisters attached to its back. With it, the boss can build up tremendous electrical energy, before releasing it in a wide AoE attack that could one-shot you if you didn’t dodge in time.
The Red Loong has more tricks up its sleeve, however, using its bladed tail to perform a wide, sweeping attack. It also deals damage while flying about the arena, releasing balls of lightning as it goes. However, using a combination of Immobilise and Cloud Step spells throughout the fight, while watching for signs of its impending AoE attack is a surefire way of triumphing.
Black Loong
- Location: Fright Cliff, Yellow Wind Ridge
- Nearest shrine: Rockrest Flat Shrine
- Rewards:
- Tridacna Pendant
- 1x Loong Pearl
- 2x Refined Iron Sand
- 1x Mind Core
- 1x Thunderbone
The Black Loong can be found in Chapter Two behind a wall of falling sand near Rockrest Flat Shrine in Fright Cliff. Just like the Red Loong, the Black Loong is a secret boss that can only be accessed after getting the Loong Scales. Once inside, you’re in for one of the most unique boss fights in video game history.
Wielding two heavy maces wreathed in lightning, the Black Loong’s attacks are navigable if you listen closely to the accompanying boss music. At first, the boss will perform his usual attacks by either swinging or smashing his weapons. However, the real danger comes the moment when the camera pans out and the boss opens his maw to roar and spew lightning, which is a sign he’ll begin his ‘drum beat’ attack.
In this boss fight, surveying the arena is key to staying alive. There are several boulders dotted around the arena that you have to be mindful of. The boss smashes his mace to the beat of the music, resulting in electric shockwaves that could kill you in three hits unless you hop onto a boulder in time. All you need to do is stand on the rock until he finishes his attack combo before leaping back down to resume the fight.
The Black Loong is quite the challenging opponent, requiring multiple attempts to understand and overcome his shockwave attacks. Although it may get irritating at times, this adrenaline-pumping boss fight is well worth the struggle and frustration.
Yellow Loong
- Location: Relief of the Fallen Loong, Webbed Hollow
- Nearest shrine: Relief of the Fallen Loong Shrine
- Rewards:
- Golden Carp Curio
- 1x Kun Steel
- 1x Mind Core
- 1x Loong Pearl
- Sea-Supporting Tendon
- Golden Lining Transformation Spell
Not only is Yellow Loong the hardest Loong boss, but he is also one of the hardest bosses you can encounter in the game. This boss is unbelievably fast and agile–almost recalling Whiteclad Noble’s attack patterns–with extremely long attack combos that seem to have no end.
The Yellow Loong tends to either cartwheel or dash about in a burst of electricity; one slash of its spear releases bolts of lightning that are far-reaching, dealing significant damage when hit. In one instance, the boss will charge up its spear, before gaining speed and zipping about while sending lightning shards your way.
One of his worst moves is when he unleashes a single, wide arc of lightning that turns red and explodes, able to kill you in one shot.
Taking down the Yellow Loong will require you to pull out all the stops, as his speed and attack sequences take a while to get used to. But as the last Loong boss, you’ll finally be able to craft the powerful Golden Loong Staff.
To wrap it up, the Loong bosses in Black Myth: Wukong are a true test of skill and patience. Each one offers a distinct challenge, from the surprisingly manageable Cyan Loong to the brutal, lightning-fast Yellow Loong that can wipe you out in a heartbeat. While some require you to simply dodge and strike, others, like the Red and Black Loongs, push you to think on your feet—especially when dealing with their deadly AoE attacks.
But the real reward is not just in defeating these legendary dragons, but in the powerful loot and weapons you’ll gain, like the Golden Loong Staff, making every hard-earned victory well worth it.
